The Vancouver Island Dog Guide Society is sponsoring a Year 2000 Dog Guide Conference to be held in Victoria in the Spring of 2000.

Join us for workshops on:

• International Dog Guide Travel

• Self-advocacy

• Your rights as a dog guide user

• Monitoring / reporting denials of access

• What to do after you have been denied access - filing complaints and the legal process

• How to select the school that matches with your beliefs and values and the questions you need to ask providers

• Transportation issues - taxis, buses, trains, planes, boats

• How to choose and vet and the value of a strong working relationship with that person

• Yearly vaccinations - are they really needed

• Temporary care of your dog guide during your absence

There will be free time for networking, getting together with friends or exploring Victoria. Organized trips to popular tourist destinations will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy all Victoria has to offer. Trips that are currently in the planning stage include:

• Butchart Gardens
• Suppertime Boat Cruise
• Canoeing
• Royal British Columbia Museum

For those of you who want to discuss issues of concern in more depth -- moderated sessions on topics of interest will also be available.
