Uploading and Downloading

Uploading and downloading are common words for describing the transfer of files from one computer to another. These are two ways of looking at the same action (transferring a file). We refer to the transfer from the perspective of the host computer, in this case, the Victoria Telecommunity Network computer.

We call the transfer an "upload" when you send a file to VTN (the host) and you "download" from VTN (the host) to your own machine.

It is most usual to use the d command for downloading a file selected in the file browser.

It is possible to transfer a file directly to your computer screen or your printer (if your communications software is configured properly and the printer is turned on). The p command presents these two options with respect to printing the currently displayed document.
