The contract should be written on company letterhead, with start
and finish date, cleanup if applicable, quality of materials and
guarantee or warrantees and method of payment.  10% - 30% down is
usual to start and 10% of the total contract price can be withheld
for 40 days pending satisfaction.

If a contract is signed in the home - you have 7 days to cancel
the contract - notify the contractor by double registered letter -
keep your receipt.
