Unlike the vast majority of CD-ROM guides that enthuse over the latest games
with live action video clips, this book provides detailed and helpful
information on all aspects of CD-R production.  In some cases, the reader might
think the material is *too* detailed, such as the fine differences between
cyanine, phthalocyanine, and azo dyes on disks.  However, as the dyes have
different characteristics in lifetime and high speed recording, these factors
can be important.
 
Topics covered include general history and background, CD-recordable drives,
CD-R media, installation of a recorder, CD-R software, network considerations,
labelling disks, and troubleshooting.  The reviews of both hardware and
software are thorough and detailed, rather than giving brief notes of features
the reviewers noticed on a single run-through.  Appendices cover industry
standards as well as listing CD-R product vendors.
