BKCSIBGD.RVW 940527 Computer Security Institute Miller Freeman Inc. 600 Harrison Street San Francisco, CA 94107 415/905-2370 fax: 415/905-2218 "93 Computer Security Products Buyers Guide" Along with the items I requested from CSI, came this guide. It wasn't listed in the covering letter as a product (unlike the very disappointing "Manager's Guides"), and an ad for CSI membership seems to indicate that it is only available to CSI members (free). I don't know if it is worth the full $200 annual membership fee by itself, but it is *definitely* worth something. Product listings cover communications and network security, disaster recovery, media security, micro and terminal security, physical and facility security, software controls, security administration, consulting, personnel services, professional associations, publications, training, and market research. At almost 600 pages, this is an excellent first stop for research into an unfamiliar area. This document is, of course, primarily advertising. The information is obviously received from vendors; many entries are for resellers only, and have no reference to the producer of the item. The publications listing is woefully short. Given that I received a 1993 copy, one suspects a mid-year or later production date, but even so, some of the entries are long out of date, referring to superceded products or defunct companies. In spite of these problems, the sheer volume and variety of the information will save the average manager a great deal of time when looking for unusual technologies or new applications. copyright Robert M.
