It is intended for either advanced or graduate level work for those, presumably in electrical engineering, who have some prior background in communications theory. The material is thorough in regard to the theory behind choice of signalling techniques. Waveforms, keying, intersymbol interference, transmission codes, and even calculations for energy per bit calculations are included in the basic discussions. Data compaction, compression, and error recovery are covered at a more advanced level. The book also deals with synchronization, robustness, security, and multiterminal communications. A set of problems is given for each chapter. They are well constructed and practical. There are no answers included in the text. Historical endnotes give something of personality and depth to the topics covered in each chapter. There are references and a bibliography. copyright Robert M.
