This book collects all of his material (and jokes) between covers for the first time. Articles on this topic are a regular feature in general computer publications. An article, however, can only cover so much ground. White is able to cover shopping, ads, CPUs, video, drives, printers, multimedia, keyboards, rodents and a number of other topics in some depth. The content explains concepts and technology while the advice is practical and aimed at the average home or small business user. The emphasis tends to be on technical aspects, although the language is straightforward and aimed at a non-professional audience. Gaps in the material occur only in the more esoteric areas, such as a lack of discussion of "handedness" in mice or the statement that an audible key click on a keyboard is only a matter of subjective choice. (Key click has some bearing on RSI, repetitive stress injury.) For any computer buyer, even a current computer user, this book has valuable information. Even those computer users who don't have plans to buy or upgrade may find interesting insights into the guts of the machine. copyright Robert M.
