(It is also a very intriguing demonstration of the inefficiencies of current phone systems, but we'll let that go for the moment.) Jeff Pulver, as moderator of the "Free-World-Dialup" mailing list, is in an excellent position to give an introduction to the field, and he does a great job. As well as explaining the concepts, background, functions, and limitations of Internet telephony, Pulver provides a thorough review of a number of net phone software packages. The disk included with the book provides some of these packages so you can try them for yourself. copyright Robert M.
