For those wanting to know how to use Internet mail, this is not your book. This is a technical work examining the design aspects of electronic mail systems. The Internet RFC822 and OSI's (Open System Interconnection) MHS (Message Handling System), aka X.400, are the two major examples used in the review. Those who know Rose's views of OSI will know which comes off better. In spite of the strong (and readily admitted) bias, this is a thorough analysis of a frequently bypassed field. For those who need to build or design messaging systems, this is required reading. copyright Robert M.
