(A chapter lists vendors and products: it would have been a bit more helpful had contact information not been limited to telephone numbers.) The remainder is mostly segues drawn from the author's (and some others) experiences on the road, but there are very useful chapters covering maintenance, repairs, handy tools and the vagaries of hotel telephone jacks. The material is not technical. There is also more than a bit of bias. (Prochak's paean of praise to Newton, which even Apple now admits was not fully thought out, is ruined by his admission that although he has one he never uses it.) And the section on the Internet clearly shows that while Prochak may be on it, he is definitely not of it. Still, this book serves very handily as an introduction and buyer's guide to Apple's portable computing products. Powerbook users, as well as newcomers, will likely find worthwhile tips for more effective and trouble-free computing. copyright Robert M.
