For the adventurous Mac user, this is not only an excellent introduction, but a valuable reference which will be useful for a long time to come. The book concentrates almost exclusively on the interface aspects of the Macintosh system. An initial section describes the operation of ResEdit, itself. Three parts then look at user level resource editing. A final part five discusses the uses of ResEdit for the programmer. ResEdit can make powerful changes to the system, and many Mac users see it as a dangerous tool. The book repeatedly advises to perform experiments on copies of files and resources. The authors also recommend that this type of activity only be done after you are thoroughly familiar with your system. Within these limits, however, the book is easily accessible to any reasonably intelligent reader. An excellent guide for those wanting a *completely* personal computer--or who want to know more about how it actually works. copyright Robert M.
