This really isn't a book as much as a software package. The main item is the 800K floppy disk bound into the back. (The programs are compressed, so leave a bit more room on your hard disk.) The book is only a sort of third party documentation for the programs. Mind you, there is still a lot of work involved here. Finding and testing the programs alone must have been a project. The title to the contrary, there is significant programming involved in the programs here. Unlike many other shareware collections, LeVitus has put together a legitimate "best of" here, and tested them thoroughly. There are suggestions for troubleshooting, as well as some tips on "easter eggs" in even these gag programs. (My only quibble would be that the majority are INITs or cdevs, and therefore require some system alteration and rebooting. But here again, LeVitus is on the spot with suggestions and warnings.) Many books include "free disks!" of shareware, with a small notice somewhere in the back saying that the programs are shareware. Given the fact that the book is the disk in this case, one might expect more. LeVitus is reasonably careful in this regard. For each program that is shareware (there is some freeware) the price and address is given, as well as a recommendation that you register. (I am occasionally sent out of print books, and from the date I fear this may be the case here. Perhaps you could try computer swap meets, or the discount bins. It's worth a peek.) copyright Robert M. Slade, 1995 BKSOSMTR.RVW 951109 ============== Vancouver ROBERTS@decus.ca | Oh, wow, far out man!
