Sisto, Trade Computer Group leslies@aw.com "The Underground Guide to Excel 5.0 for Windows", Hudspeth/Lee, 1994, 0-202- 40651-9, U$19.95. This book is written in a very breezy style, but does cover the basics of Excel. The basics, mind you, not everything. Even though a lot of bugs and insider tips are given, this is not a replacement for the documentation. The first three chapters are introductory material. Then we have chapters on formulae, formatting, data analysis, customization, OLE, and Visual Basic. The OLE chapter is a good start, but given the extended problems OLE can present, this should have been given more space. The two authors are very enthusiastic about Excel. Their eagerness is not, however, compelling, as presented in the book. One gets the feeling that they may use the program in specialized and arcane ways, and that the strengths of Excel may very well lie outside the realms of normal work. In any case, if you use Excel, this book is well worth consideration. It may be that you haven't done anything wrong in the problem you are currently working on. Sometimes Excel just won't do that. copyright Robert M.
