Stout has provided a thorough overview of WWW (World Wide Web) concepts from getting access for browsing (in all its different forms) through page design and authoring to HTML software, Web server providers and the types of business conducted on the net. Where so many W3 guides list endless pages of W3 "clipart", this work relies on solid research, understanding, and an excellent assessment of the type of information that is of greatest use to those starting out. Stout does provide a catalogue of Web sites, but in an organised, condensed, annotated and useful form. Given the scope of the book, you may find that you want more information in certain specialized areas. (Establishing a dial-up IP connection, for example, is not always entirely straightforward.) For the vast majority of Web surfers and providers, though, it will be a long time before you outgrow this text. copyright Robert M.
