It is a reference to remind users already familiar with the program of specific functions and how to access them. The "tasks" chosen do give complete coverage of Word functions (excluding programming), but do not delve into the applications quirks. A troubleshooting guide and illustrations of various onscreen entities of Word are helpful references--comprising thirty-six pages, even before the title page! The individual tasks are well-presented, giving a description, assumptions made about where the user is in the process, exceptions to the assumptions, the steps to take, what to do if something goes wrong, and other related tasks to check out. The writing is complete and clear. The index could and possibly should have been expanded, since it lists tasks only by Word jargon, and thus you have to know what Word calls a function in order to find out about it. copyright Robert M.
