1. THE INTERNET: WHAT IS IT? WHERE IS IT? WHY IS IT?
HOW CAN I USE IT?
Topics will include:
- Internet Services: Electronic Mail, Gopher, Mosaic,
Archie, Veronica, WAIS, Finger, FTP, IRC, TALK, ListServers,
Usenet News.
- Internet Hazards: Worms, Viruses, Trojan Horses,
Mailbombs, Flamewars, Firewalls, PGP, Encryption.
- Internet Access: Service providers (public and private),
Types of access (SLIP, PPP, Direct), and How to determine
the best for your organization.
- Commercialization of the Internet and how it affects you.
Dates: Saturdays, February 4 and 11, 1995

2. DATA MODELLING
For managers, analysts, and those who need to use data
models or read and understand data models to communicate
with systems designers and developers.
The focus of this seminar will be in developing and
understanding normalized data models appropriate for
implementation in relational databases. Participants will
develop data models to reinforce the concepts being
presented and to gain hands-on practical experience.
Dates: Tuesday and Wednesday, February 21 and 22, 1995
Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

3. INTRODUCTION TO UNIX
This hands-on seminar provides a comprehensive introduction
to the UNIX operating system, with some exposure to the MIT
X11 windowing system and the Internet. The computers used
for this course are Sun Microsystems Inc. workstations,
running the SunOS 4.X operating system (derived from
Berkeley UNIX with some features from UNIX System V added).
Dates: Saturdays, February 25 and March 4, 1995

4. GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Topics will include:
- GIS Concepts and Technology
- Automation of Geographic Data, Spatial Data Structures,
and Sources of Error
- Modelling within a GIS Environment
- GIS Acquisition and Implementation
Dates: Wednesday and Thursday, March 15 and 16, 1995
Time: 8:30 am - 5 pm

5. PROGRAMMING IN C++
For programmers familiar with another programming language.
The course will include two lab sessions where participants
will implement programming assignments on Sun Workstations.
No knowledge of Sun Workstation or the UNIX operating system
is assumed.
